Klineberg, Professor of Sociology at Rice University and Co-director of the Institute for Urban Research speaks on the nation’s longest running study of any metropolitan city in the U.S. for 30 years. serving a prominent role in future planning of businesses and organizations in Houston.
Garcia wasappointed by Mayor Bob Lanier to start the Mayor’s Anti-Gang Office and promoted to Director of the Mayor’s Anti-Gang Office by Mayor Lee Brown, where he served until 2003 before becoming Houston City Council in 2003. He currently heads the largest sheriff’s office in Texas and the third-largest in the United States.

  Dr. Harris is the 1st African American man to walk in space. He obtained a B.S. degree in biology from University of Houston in 1978. He always dreamed of becoming an astronaut while growing up during the Civil Rights era. Dr. Harris has become an inspiration to many African Americans and continues doing so through The Harris Foundation. An inspirational story about a woman born in Trinidad and taught by her mother to serve the community. She sold everything to purchase a run down apartment complex and dedicated her life to serving Houston’s elderly homeless. The Turning Point Center is located in Spring Branch.

“Human Potential”


  NBA Hall of Fame Houston Rockets player commemorated the best player in his position as center to ever play. Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Olajuwon traveled from his home country to play for the University of Houston. Drafted by the Houston Rockets with the first overall selection of the 1984 NBA Draft which included Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, and John Stockton. Led the Houston Rockets to win 2 consecutive NBA Championships, which empowered Houston to build the Toyota Center. His real estate development contribution ranges of $200 Million including converting an 1800′s Downtown bank into a Mosque and philanthropy non-profits such as the Dream Foundation.
